Limelight Networks' Dion Messer Honored With the Federal Circuit Bar Association's "George Hutchinson Award"

07/30/2012

PHOENIX, July 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Limelight Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:LLNW), a leader in Digital Presence Management, today announced that Dion Messer, Senior Intellectual Property Corporate Counsel, has been honored by the Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA) with its most prestigious recognition award, the "George Hutchinson Award." The award recognized Messer and her co-chair of the FCBA's Veterans Appeals Committee, Lawrence Kass, a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, for their strong leadership of the committee and its significant achievements over the past years.

The Veterans Appeals Committee established and administers the FCBA's Veterans Pro Bono Program, working to identify and screen appeals filed pro se with the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (COAFC) and, for appropriate appeals, secure pro bono counsel from among FCBA interested attorneys.  In addition, the committee works to establish and build connections with other Veterans Law Committees from other bar associations, as well as monitor developments and offer educational programs with respect to veteran's law within both the judiciary and legislature.

Messer and Lawrence served as chairs of the committee for the past two years, and also served as the committee's vice-chairs for two years prior. During their tenure, pro bono attorneys secured by the FCBA's Program have successfully argued cases before the COAFC to recoup benefits previously denied to veterans and their families by the Veterans Administration. Of additional note, the Court's opinion in many of those cases created precedent that will help untold numbers of veterans newly applying for benefits to the Veterans Administration. Messer herself successfully represented Vietnam War veteran Leroy Comer in his more than 30 year battle with the VA to get disability benefits for his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder disability. Messer argued on Mr. Comer's behalf, and the Court agreed, that veterans who are not represented by an attorney do not need to make explicit formalist arguments for certain benefits when their informal arguments raise the question. In her role at Limelight Networks, Messer manages patent litigation and prosecution as well as all other intellectual property matters.
